Voice of Navkshitij: August 2018
From the President’s desk
This is the month in which we celebrate our Independence Day, a day to which our Friends look forward to year after year.
We are working towards making our systems better so that our colleagues can work in peace and feel stress-free. We have decided to concentrate on fund raising strategies. It is an undeniable reality that passion will need to be supported with financial assistance for us to be able to implement newer and better programs for our Friends.
This year, Swar Akash, a music group, put up a special show of music and dance for our Friends. Volunteers from Infosys attended the flag hoisting ceremony at Marunji and participated in the dance and song show. We are grateful to both the groups for taking time out to be with our Friends and giving them a sense of belonging in the main stream society. This year’s Independence Day was extra special to me because the Mayor of Pune, Ms Mukta Tilak, felicitated me for my contribution towards the betterment of Pune city through Navkshitij. Your Health Matters, a health club, conducted a Yogasana workshop for our Friends, on August 21.
On August 25, our Friends went on a trek to Malhargad. Mr Sopan Khenat, a member of Sahyadri Trekkers, accompanied us and we are indeed grateful to him. We celebrated Nagpanchami with a mehendi evening and the girls playing the traditional swing, specially put up for the occasion. And, of course, we enjoyed delicious puran poli at lunch time.
Something wonderful happened on Rakshabandhan day. A group of policemen came to Marunji to celebrate festival with their special sisters. It was a very touching moment for us. Where most of the time we get to see only their tough side, we got a glimpse of the sensitive side of the policemen. The policemen also donated big dustbins and LED bulbs, together worth Rs 10,000.
A group of employees from Cross Country InfoTech organised a puppet show for our Friends who really enjoyed the show. We thank the volunteers for this novel idea. We had our monthly Traffic Awareness Program at Pune University chowk on August 1. We are all excitedly gearing up to welcome Ganapati Bappa. Our Friends and teachers are also readying themselves for the annual Street Play, Walkathon and the Natyamahotsav in October.
Loving words from a volunteer
Dear Desai Madam,
I didn’t have the chance to say good bye to you because I was on the school trek. I wanted to meet you. So, I decided to write a letter.
Thank you for the chance to come to Navkshitij and have great experiences. This year means so much to me, and I enjoyed it a lot! I hope that you are happy with my volunteering service.
I learned a lot about working with the Navkshitij Family, about living in India and about myself. I went to so many places and events, I learned how to make jewelry at the workshop. I spent time with beautiful souls.
Now, I feel I have a second home and family, which I will visit as soon as possible. Thank you so much all for your support, kindness and our talks. It was such a present to me to be included in everything happening here. I never felt alone.
I really appreciate the power that you give for Navkshitij. I have a lot of respect for you, because you do all this work from your heart. Navkshitij will always have good times and grow even more! It is so important to care for special friends and to share the awareness that they should be a part of the society.
I would love to stay in contact with Navkshitij after returning home. It’s now an important part of my life. I wish all the best to you and your family and bid farewell to the Navkshitij Family!
Thank you, a thousand times,
Anna Pieper (Resident volunteer for 2017-18 from Friends of Waldorf, Germany).
