Best Caregiver Award instated
Our 10thAnniversary celebration last month was an occasion for us to publicly express our gratitude to the people who had helped us reach an important milestone. The milestone was possible only because of their helping hands. We had the good fortune to meet so many kind hearted people along the way. At the top of the list are our staff members, without whose cooperation it would have been impossible for me to start many initiatives. Our trustee members are a big support system for me. Knowing they are there for me makes it easier to take up new challenges and think of expansion.
One grossly neglected sector is the community of caregivers. They are among the most kind-hearted people ever. They play a critical role, especially in residential homes for the mentally challenged. They stay with our special friends 24 hours, giving them love and care. They field the special friends’ mood swings, and occasionally some very rude behavior too, with great understanding. They tend to them with tremendous care during their illnesses. It is not an easy job. Infact, it is a thankless job. People are quick to pinpoint what has not been done rather appreciate what is being done.
These caregivers are a very significant part of residential organizations. They give unconditional love and care to our Friends. They have tremendous love and respect for me – with absolutely no expectations at all. Unknowingly, they giveme the reassurance of ready support, thus leaving me prepared to take on any new challenges.
I wanted to express my thanks and gratitude to the caregivers, and we instituted the Best Caregiver Award this year, in memory of my parents, late Dr. Vasant Dixit and late Mrs.Jayashri Vasant Dixit. The award includes a purse of Rs. 5000 and a trophy. The first recipient of this award was Mrs. Mangala Patil from Sadhana Village. Congratulations, Mrs. Mangala Patil.
Mother Earth is safe
A few days ago, I went to one of the top hospitals in Pune city, to talk to the doctor regarding my mother-in-law’s health condition. While waiting to catch his attention, I looked around me. I noticed a young boyof about 6–7 years, standing next to a car. He looked bored. He then slowly came walking towards the doctor whom we were meeting. Apparently the boy had been eating something and he wanted to know where to throw the wrapper since he couldn’t locate a dustbin close by. The highly qualified doctor, who happened to be the boy’s father, asked him to leave it behind a nearby tree.
I was horrified. But there was a very pleasant surprise waiting for me – the boy refused to leave it behind the tree. Instead, he had the courage to say, “No, Daddy,we shouldn’t make this beautiful place dirty. I will keep it and throw it in the dustbin at home.”
I felt so happy and proud of this little angel. It has given me the hope that these little angels will take excellent care of our Mother Earth. Long live the angel.
