Rehabilitation
Core details about the residential care programme and facilities provided to PwIDs
1. Programme Overview
At Navkshitij, we provide residential care for persons with intellectual disabilities (PwIDs). Our experience over the past two decades has taught us that “mentally challenged individuals do not fool challenged among their peers.” Their behavioural issues reduce dramatically when they live in a secure residential facility alongside others in a similar condition. All PwIDs deserve care at a residential rehabilitation centre, regardless of their socio-economic status. We initiated this program to offer lifelong support for PWIDs. Many parents worry, “Who will care for my child after I’m gone?” We provide a solution to this concern, Currently, over 87 adults with intellectual disabilities are happily residing on our two campuses.
2. Eligibility Criteria
We offer paid residential care for PwIDs aged 18 years and above. Government documents required for admission to our residential centre include an Aadhaar card, disability certificate, UDID card, updated health check report, Aadhaar cards for parents/siblings, and contact details of a local guardian (in the case of PwIDs from outside Maharashtra).
To initiate the admission process, please contact the managing trustee and schedule an appointment. The PwID will be taken in on a one-month trial period before admission is confirmed. During the trial period, the concerned experts will observe various aspects of the individual. Our team will take the final call regarding granting admission.
3. Program Objectives
Development of Independent Living Skills:
We train PwIDs to independently perform their daily living activities in the residential rehabilitation centre. Their daily routine is structured to include yoga, meditation, pranayama, physical training and Zumba. After breakfast, the PwIDs work at our sheltered workshop, where we have installed time-entry thumb machines, recreating an office environment, Our Resident PwIDs create many eco-friendly handmade items in our workshop.
Social Integration and Skill Development:
We organise monthly treks, annual shopping trips and other activities to foster social skills, We promote individual potential through skill development. After identifying individual strengths, We provide targeted opportunities. Some of our PwIDs have been selected for job training.
4. Individualised Care Plans
We develop Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRPs) for the holistic development of our PwIDs. Our team collects essential information from parents and caregivers. Then, based on a comprehensive assessment checklist and observations, we prepare an IRP tailored to every PwID.
